How it Works

Test scores may tell you how many questions you answer correctly, but they don't tell you how much you know. People can guess and have doubt and still get correct answers.

Confidence-Based Learning (CBL) determines what you actually know and teaches you what you need to know - faster than any other method. It starts with an evaluation of your quality of knowledge. Then it leads you through the learning you need to obtain mastery.

You take an assessment to determine exactly what you know and what you need to learn

A Confidence-Based Assessment (CBA)™ question is unique in that it captures what you know, and how confident you are in what you know. It does this by asking you to select not only the correct answer, but also how sure you are that your selection is the correct answer.

1. Take the assessment

Answer here only if you are very sure of your answer. You are given the maximum reward for a correct answer, but given the maximum penalty if you answer incorrectly.

If you're reasonably sure the correct answer is one of two choices, you can select that pair. You will earn partial credit if one of them is correct. If they are both wrong, you will be assessed the maximum penalty.

There is no penalty or reward for answering "I Don't Know". Since the overall effect on your score is neutral, answering here is to your advantage if you truly don't know the correct answer.

2. Review the results of your assessment

After you submit your answers, you will be directed to the Learning Center where you will see your results. A quick glance shows you how you did on your last assessment:

You can also view your progress through the entire module – an important metric since each assessment only displays a subset of the questions in the module.

3. Learn only what you need by digging into the questions and answers

The lower half of the Learning Center provides a targeted lesson plan designed specifically for you. Each question is categorized according to how you answered it. Click on each question you wish to review and read the associated training material. For each question, you will see the answer you gave, the correct answer, and an explanation of the answer. There may also be links that take you to further learning on the subject, which will help you build confidence.

4. Re-Take your assessment

After studying the material from your first time through, select Re-Take. This takes you back to the module, where you may see some of the same questions and some new ones – all randomly generated from a pool of questions. Repeat this process as many times as you need to until you have seen all of the questions and reached the Mastery Goal.
